Collier & Manley 2012 Group
Information on Timetables, Homework Submissions and email Protocol
1) Timetables will be put up in the Resources section of the Glyphstudy Files in the Collier
& Manley section. As you will each be submitting all the exercises there is no need for an
Assignments schedule.
2) Homework should be submitted to the C&M 2012 Homework website
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GLYPHSTUDY-C-AND-M-HMWK-2012 ) by midnight
GMT on the appropriate Sunday. This site is for homework submissions only.
3) One exercise per email, please (unless otherwise indicated*). The subject heading of the
email should read: Collier + exercise number, eg Collier 3.5 (I will have folders set up in
Outlook Express for each exercise and, hopefully, emails will automatically be directed to the
appropriate folder).
* Because the first 2 or 3 exercises in a chapter are short, they can be combined in one email
I will make this clear on the timetable.
4) If you want to ensure you recognise your homework, put your initials (or any other code) at
the top of your homework.
5) Please do not use any transliteration fonts MdC must be used. Hieroglyphic fonts should
also not be used I do not require you to submit any homework that consists of hieroglyphs.
6) The C&M sign codes (at the back of the book) are different from the Gardiner
classifications. As everybody else in the world of hieroglyphs uses the Gardiner
classifications, can you please also use the Gardiner classifications if you need to refer to a
sign. A link to the Gardiner codes are up in the C&M folder. If you really want to use C&M
codes, please make it clear that this is what you are doing.
7) I will collate the homework and issue the collation on the Monday/Tuesday.
8) Questions regarding exercises, homework collations, or anything in the book should be
posted to the GlyphStudy website. The Homework website is just for homework. (You can
also ask questions in your homework).
9) Emails (other than homework submissions) should have in the subject box: Collier 2012 +
the topic, eg "Collier 2012 query exercise 1.1" (this is so that you, and others, can choose
which GlyphStudy emails you read).
10) If you do not submit homework then I will not chase you for it but if you decide to drop
out, or know you will not be submitting homework for a particular week, please let me know
offlist. If you want to submit homework early (because you will be away, please contact me
offlist).
The above may seem complicated, so don't worry if you don't get it all right to begin with. I
will nudge you as we go along and we can iron out any wrinkles during the first few weeks.
