How the Collier & Manley 2012 Group will Work
It is hoped that the Group will start officially on 2nd January 2012 when you will be asked to start
reading Chapter 1. I will be using the 2004 print of "How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs" by Mark
Collier and Bill Manley, published by the British Museum Press.
The normal pattern will be that you will be asked to start reading a chapter and the first homework
submission for that chapter will be due by the Sunday of the following week. The exercises for
each chapter will be spread over one or more weeks and you will be expected to submit all the
exercises (except those containing hieroglyphs!).
Timetables will be issued on a regular basis and put up in the C&M Group folder on GlyphStudy.
Questions on either the contents of the chapters or the exercises can be asked at any time either on
GlyphStudy, or in your homework.
All homework submissions will be made to the C&M 2012 homework website (more details will be
forthcoming in December). Nothing else should be posted to this Group website it is only for
homework. All other postings, including questions should be posted to the GlyphStudy website.
On the Monday/Tuesday following homework submissions I will issue a collation. I will be
commenting on transliterations/translations where appropriate.
The Collier & Manley folder (on GlyphStudy) will also contain resources which will be added to as
we go along. If you are a beginner, I suggest you look at the Study Guide for Chapter 1 for the
Hoch 2009 Group ignore the references to Hoch and concentrate on the information Bob has
given on some of the basics of the AE Language.
